Mount Meru Waterfall Hike (Napuru Waterfall)

Mount Meru, Tanzania's second-highest peak, is a dormant volcano located near Arusha. Mount Meru Hike Details

  • Hike Distance: The total round-trip distance for the hike is approximately 4-5 kilometers.
  • Hike Duration: The hike from the ticket office to the waterfall and back typically takes about 1.5 to 2 hours.
  • Hike Difficulty: This trail is moderately challenging, primarily due to slippery conditions and the need to wade through the river. It’s manageable for most people with average fitness and a sense of adventure, though it does involve some wet and uneven terrain.
  • Hike Incline: The hike features an elevation gain of about 200 meters.
 

Where is the Mount Meru Waterfall

Mount Meru Waterfall is located within the Meru Conservation Area, just above Themi Leisure Park. To reach the waterfall, you will take a boda-boda (motorbike) up a rugged, muddy hill, as a tuk-tuk won’t make it up the challenging terrain. The entrance is situated about one kilometre beyond Themi Leisure Park.

Permits and Guides for the Mount Meru Waterfall

After entering the Meru Conservation Area, you’ll encounter a ticketing office where you’ll pay the entrance fee of $12 USD per person. 

Hiring a guide is mandatory in this area, and their assistance is invaluable. The trail is not well-marked, and it’s not available on most maps, including maps.me. Guides are skilled at navigating the path, offering tips for overcoming rocky sections, boulders, and steep inclines. Of course, we will arrange and provide you with a guide who is knowledgeable and experienced in the area.
